If you are familiar with the physicist Michio Kaku, you may know that he does not consider FTL travel physically impossible, though we may have a big problem generating and controlling the amount of energy necessary. About the "modern audience" comment "Wait .... And if it's not one thing, then it's another: the cultures are too monolithic, FTL travel destroys credibility, B5's philosophy is just push-button rhetoric, etc. And all of that without actually watching the damn thing.
